In my experience most people have an inbuilt primeval fascination with water, so it comes as no surprise that subject matter associating with it is a very common occurrence.

In my case this is definitely true and not just from an artists point of view. In my younger days sailing on the Norfolk Broads and rowing competitively for my school were the norm. As well as the above, freshwater fishing provided important reset  days of just sitting spell bound by hypnotic rivers, lakes and canals watching the wildlife and nature in general. My love of natural history and environment stem from these experiences in my youth.

The Itchen Valley has some  great places to see and inspiration to replicate an idealised image from memory and record it sometimes happens.

From my earlier days in London the river Thames and all those bridges. I just had to choose one that I had walked across on many occasions and paint it as a reminder so as not to forget.

Using water soluable ink brushes go first time.

Created a 15cms square painting on paper as experiment.

Found the medium easy to use and apply in this rapid sketchbook item although the stronger colours are difficult to blend.
